RANGER AGAINST WAR: Jason Pepper <

Jason Pepper

_____________

Jason Pepper is a serviceman on whose behalf the Disabled American Veterans is soliciting for donations. Jason could serve as the universal injured soldier for Iraq.

Jason ''had his eyes destroyed, his right forearm shattered, and his left hand mangled in an explosion in Iraq.'' Ranger is publishing this Disabled American Veterans' letter to publicize the cause, and to share the realities facing Jason and his fellows.

I salute his service and sacrifice, and America should be proud of soldiers like him. But were these soldiers to rely exclusively upon the largesse of the Department of Veterans Affairs, many, like Jason, ''would be completely lost.''

It's a shame and a pox on America that our distinguished soldiers must depend upon charity after they are severely injured.

Money for elective wars, but not enough to meet the needs of the injured warriors.

My daddy, independent cuss he was, didn't talk a lot and when he did, you best listen up cuz he wasn't gonna dance around the topic at hand and he'd only say things once. He was in WW 2 in the Pacific and he *never* talked about that but one of the few things I heard him say based on his service experience -- and more than once -- was you never wanted to work for a man who hadn't been in the war and you never wanted to vote for one who hadn't either. His reasoning was pretty simple: a man who hadn't taken time out from his life, put on a uniform and, as he put it, "put his own d*ck on the line" was a man who was essentially uneducated in the way the world worked (his words were "is too stupid" but you know what he meant). Maybe if more of the people who ran this country weren't so "stupid", we wouldn't be in this mess in Eye-Rack in the first place, and we durn sure wouldn't been seeing the kind of thing we see with the rats at Walter Wonderful or this kind of begging for this fine soldier either. And we all know he's not alone. This just burns me up. Big time.

..anon.

Thank you, anon.

Jim believes exactly the same thing.
That our top leaders should all have military service. Then they could act and speak from knowledge.

He will be back later and may comment further.

anon,

Your dad was lucky that the political parties actually fielded candidates that had political experience. Neither seems to do so these days. It is almost as though our service is irrelevant.
