Running with Scissors

The true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive
his deception, the one who lies with sincerity

--André Gide

When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of,
he always declares that it is his duty
--George Bernard Shaw

________

"Everyone agrees that Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear weapons; the only question is how to stop that form happening," so states The Week in their news roundup "U.S. Slaps new Sanctions on Iran."

To say "everyone agrees" Iran should not have nuclear capabilities is a myopic ethnocentric construct. Obviously Iran, Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah do not agree. For Iran, surrounded on three sides by a belligerent U.S. military presence, having a tactical nuclear weapon probably makes a lot of sense.

And who is the U.S. to slap sanctions on anyone? The only nation ever to employ nukes on living flesh is not exactly a neutral moral arbiter on the ownership or deployment of the device. The U.S. arguably possesses more nuclear devices than the rest of the world put together. Of course, at a certain point it is overkill.

So after the U.S. has invaded two countries and destroyed the fabric of their societies, the U.S. Secretary of State declares Iranian behavior "threatening." Threatening is a mite bit short of the activities conducted under the aegis of U.S. foreign policy.

Condoleeza Rice attempted to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin and the China on board with economic sanctions, but she failed to convince.
Asked Putin, "Why should we make the situation worse?" He compared the Bush administration to "mad people wielding razor blades". China suggested "dialog and negotiations" as a better approach.

There are more worlds out there than that conceived of by one gunslinger.

if you count the carrier groups offshore to the south, you can easily consider iran to be completely surrounded. all sides. were i in that position i'd be getting my weapons beefed up and the ammo stockpiled. they'd be traitors not to arm themselves the best way possible.

MB,

Correction taken--4-sides, so, surrounded.

We also had Japan completely surrounded, and we lit them up. Not a good precedent.

MB' It dawned on me last nite the importance of your comments on the Offshore carrier groups off the southern shores of Iran.

Of course these groups have nuclear weapons on board and in a deployable posture. But once again it's the Iranians who are aggressive and a nuclear menace.

it is also something to note that the new commander of centcom, an admiral whose main specialty is amphibious ops was put in place right before the current saber rattlings begin. one carrier group would be sufficient to nearly flatten most average sized countries. two carrier groups can easily deal with continents and their neighbors. the third one, standing off about a day's steaming away in the indian ocean means serious, destruction.

that's the thing about carrier groups. they are mainly, and only, projections of force. they do not provide any boots on the ground, any cleanup or holding. they simply go in and pulverise shit. they do it well, and at will. the stealth babies and the cruise missles will first cripple command and control centers, fire control stations, major roads and railways, port facilities and government buildings. then the stealth babies go in to take care of anything silly enough to try shooting at them. then it's just an around the clock reign of destruction from the sky.

i'm sure they have nukes. they always do.

Hi
The other news was about 2 months ago a F-18 wing came from S. Korea to a Turkey base. These planes are setup to carry nukes. There's enough fire power in 3 carrier groups to level most countries and there won't be a need for boots on the ground when there nothing left standing. It looks like it will start with Israel then we jump in to defend them. If any of this happens it will be a sad day, the America we grew up in will be gone. I'm not to sure the youth of this nation will do anything but roll over like congresscritters.

jo,

It's good that we neutralized the nuclear threat in N. Korea. Now we can take our F-18 nuclear-capable jets, and neutralize the threat in Iran. It defies the imagination, that we use the imminent threat of nuclear holocaust to dissuade anyone else from possessing nuclear weapons.

Of course, we do not do this in an aggressive manner, but with true Christian humility. God wants America to have nuclear weapons; why else would we have them? It's an awesome blessing.
