A recent headline in USA Today proclaimed: "U.S. hails Iraq bid to unite security; Move aids chance for reconciliation." For this chance, the president has asked Congress for another $157 billion for the war for next year alone, according to Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
So there we have it, war fans. $157 billion to "aid a chance for reconciliation." Why not just flush it down the toilet?
Wars are not fought for chances. Chance is not a military term or principle, though it is in the gambler's lexicon, and surely George W. Bush is as reprobate a gambler as they come, dealing fast and loose as he is with American lives and fortune.
The only chance this Ranger will bet on is the chance to get out of Iraq ASAP.

if the iraq scenario plays out as well as the viet nam one did, the ugly truth that is buried in history will be that there wasn't a single thing accomplished that wasn't available without invasion. we could have allowed saddam and his family, hell, go for broke, his entire tribe to go into exile and placed an armed guard around his compound for far less than we have spent now. certainly far fewer deaths. and yes, the exile option was floated by saddam, and rejected by bush.

Yes, MB, what a sensible solution you have fronted. We often wondered why Saddam simply didn't throw himself on the mercy the UN, and face the world court, if necessary. Say basically that he is about to be deposed, and ask what could be done.
Surely something shy of this crying shame.
