Whores and Pimps

The world has held great Heroes,

As history books have showed;

But never a name to go down to fame

Compared with that of Toad!

--The Wind in the Willows, Kenne

When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of,

he always declares that it is his duty

--George Bernard Shaw

The true hypocrite is one who ceases to perceive his deception,

the one who lies with sincerity

The New York Times ran a feature 5/20 on military talking heads -- experts who whore to the media for the Bush administration (Behind Analysts, Pentagon's Hidden Hand.) These experts are just Pentagon toadies.

"Hidden behind that appearance of objectivity, though, is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance, an examination by The New York Times has found.

"The effort, which began with the buildup to the Iraq war and continues to this day, has sought to exploit ideological and military allegiances, and also a powerful financial dynamic: Most of the analysts have ties to military contractors vested in the very war policies they are asked to assess on air."

Is this the logical extension of the Officers Corps' Honesty Above All Else motto?

On a personal level, we have received numerous attacks both from individuals and groups casting aspersions upon Ranger's character and legitimacy. Always ad hominem, they boil down to calling Ranger a "phony" and a "turncoat." In effect, a REAL Ranger and officer would neither question nor object to a phony war.

Oddly enough, the most recent vitriol came with an invitation to join their group's site. One semi-clearheaded member of the merry band wrote to say that though Ranger was welcome on their site, he will be roundly trounced should he join. They must think all Rangers are masochists.

In effect, President Bush remains for them the Commander in Chief (though many have been out of uniform for a while), the C in C is a fuhrer, and their blood oath to him is inviolable. One group actually invited Ranger to their bar/bunker to sing German drinking songs. God bless the netizens.

It does not matter that my oath was to the Constitution and transcends all personalities, both mine and theirs.

Ranger is not paid and does not shill for anyone. All the military talking heads get paid big bucks, and are presented as all-American and impartial experts; they are anything but. They are money-grubbing whores in power neckties.

Though on reflection, that is to do an injustice to whores, who at least possess a level of honesty these pukes don't possess or comprehend.

I wonder if those same would have taken that oath to Bill Clinton? The ones I know (mostly Viet Nam and Korean War vets) were the ones screaming loudest Clinton should resign after the extramarital BJ.

Hi fixer,

I am channeling Ranger who is not here at the moment, and will say first, "extramarital BJ" is an oxymoron, is it not? (We like to maintain linguistic integrity 'round these parts.)

As to the oath of loyalty to Clinton--doubtful, or under duress, b/c you see he was a draft dodger, whereas Bush, well, was a...draft dodger. But he talks bad and strikes a pose, which allows all of the acolytes to feel like very tough teddy boys.

Brings 'em back to their days of glory, I imagine, before they allowed themselves to become castrated. They don't like Clinton because he was liberal and a bon vivant. They can't stand people having fun and not being mean and cliquish.

fixer,
This is a metaforical statement added for irony. Now thats a mouthful, probably more than Monica got.The Blood oath of the Nazi Army was individually sworn to AH. There is no equivalent in the US system ALTHOUGH some seem to think this is the case
I don't believe any RVN vets disowned Bill b/c of a blowjob since most of us used steam jobs and blowbaths as decompression techniques. Also if i were married to Hillary i'd get all the extra marital action i could garner w/o impeachment
It's beyond strange that Bill got impeached and Bush is getting away with murder, jim

the most important thing i brought to my third tour, as noted by some of my team, was that i was the guy with the rank, and the cred, and the willingness to say "no."

when the plan was to go into the boonies to "farkle about smartly" until we drew fire with no other objective other than drawing fire i would say "no." when it involved using our highly trained unconvential force as regular infantry i would suggest that they radio the regular infantry.

i also discovered that once a senior nco had taken that stand, there were officers which suddenly discovered their backbone.

one of the most telling things about the way this phony war was conceived and waged is that any of the high brass who were silly enough to object found themselves cashiered. but, those who simply retired without saying a word were able to cash in.

smedly butler, of the usmc, back in the days of teddy roosevelt, was highly critical of this very same process. he was merciless in his criticism of flag officers who left the service and cashed in.

MB,
thanks for expanding this concept to include the NCO viewpoint. This is a true and valid position that you espouse.Everybody in the military should be a leader. EVERYBODY. jim

MB,

Smedly Butler said some brilliant and brave things, all the more impressive coming from a Marine of his stature.
