So George Bush managed with straight face to chastise the Chinese for civil rights violations "Bush: China Must End Detentions, Ensure Freedoms." Mr. President, here is an idea to kill two birds with one stone:

- Rent out CIA secret prison sites to the Chinese so they can hide their detentions. End of problem.
- Sell the Chinese computer software on the art of setting up military commissions, so long as they try their dissidents in a military court.
- The profits from rent and software sales can then positively impact our trade deficit.
This is a win-win for everyone (well, except for the dissidents.) But does Mr. Bush really have the moral authority to reprimand the Chinese, when his own house is not in order?

I believe aspects of the U.S. Government and certainly Wal-Mart are already engaged in far worse business and political dealings with the People's Republic of China.

The US bicycleteam wore black facemasks inside the new topmodern airport, something no chinese ever does even outside (they prefer pokemon-facemasks and other decorated items when the autumn duststorms rage). They have chosen a Darfurian refugee as a flagbearer. They were the only ones walking single file. All of this amounts to an open insult towards the chinese, and it seems quite calculated. I wonder how the US would react to the Norwegian contigent wearing Orange jumpsuits and hoods in a US game...
The sad part is that this is perfectly designed to strengthen Chinese nationalism, because to the chinese saving face etc. is vitally important. So it leads to a weakening of the US ability to influence Chinese human rights politics. Its so childish I cant even start to comprehend it. Why? I am giving up on understanding a lot of things...

This administration has behaved like a contemptuous child on so many occasions, one wonders: where are the adults?
