So Long, Condi, And Thanks for All the Fish
In an article on the shifting of Intelligence Chief John Negroponte to the State Department, The New York Times reports, "It is curious that Mr. Negroponte will leave a job that the administration has billed as critical for national security to become Ms. Rice's deputy."
No, it is not really curious. The GWB White House must neutralize Ms. Rice before brother Jeb can shoulder his way into the 2008 Republican Presidential nomination. They are setting Negroponte up to replace Rice, who is becoming too touchy-feely (read: too reasonable) in her suggestions regarding the conduct of negotiations. She was contaminated by rubbing shoulders with State Department liberals.
It is not a little bit ironic that Ms. Rice (black/white name), is to be replaced by Mr. Negroponte (white/black name). But somehow, this has the feel of maintaining a civil rights balance.
No more up for Ms. Rice; out is next. Condi better be wary of becoming too uppity, like Colin Powell, or she'll be burnt toast. Even equal opportunity has a glass ceiling, and it looks like curtain time for you. You gave a splendid performance...the piano concerts were a nice touch, adding a bit of dignity to an otherwise buffoonish affair.
GWB is famous for staying the course with his female allies (Miers, Hughes, Rice), but the writing is on the wall.
This is the Bush family gambit, for the dynasty must perdure.

Love your work, but Gawd I hope you're wrong about Jeb. Although he undoubtedly would have been superior to George as president, I don't ever want to see another Bush in the rose garden.
With you, spiider. A rose by any other name...
