Hacks

Hellhound Cerberus,
where ferryman Charon drops off the dead souls

--William Blake (18th cen.)
_________
"'I was like, Veterans Day is just a day to get off work,'" he said. 'Now I appreciate it. I'm a veteran now.'
"He is much more than that -- Ramirez-Dominguez, 22, suffered severe head injuries July 26 when an improvised explosive device blew up his Bradley Fighting Vehicle as he drove over a Baghdad bridge to pick up some detainees (Florida Military Pay Price)."

Ranger asks, when have fighting vehicles become taxis to pick up detainees? Using expensive combat vehicles and well-trained combat soldiers as taxis and taxi drivers does not make sense at any level.

Why don't the Iraqi forces fulfill this internal security function? It is their country, isn't it? You don't expend combat power as taxi drivers. It is an insult to a fighting man to be utilized in such a manner.

"Only moments before a seventh surgery to clean out some of the metal parts inserted to hold him together, Ramirez-Dominguez was not only grateful for his care, but optimistic about his future."

Nobody should be exposed to combat that is this brutally wound-inflicting and have to say, "I was acting as taxi driver."

the "contractors" won't take the amublance or other outsourced gigs like prisoner transport because it's too bleeding dangerous to drive.

Oh wait. I thought that they had contractors to do that stuff. Oh wait. They only want to drive diplomats.

Liz,

And of course, hotshot contractors shouldn't be doing the toting, either -- least not ones on the U.S. payroll. Definitely a national function.

MB,

Ranger is simply amazed that they transport folks in Bradley fighting vehicles on an on-call, planned mission basis. If it were infantry moving them after capture, it's understandable. However, that is not the case here. In effect, the infantry is working for the MPs.

Now that's a sad day.
