Beelzebubba

"At 50, everyone has the face he deserves"
--George Orwell

___________

Peter Maer: What's your advice to the average American who is hurting now, facing the prospect of $4 a gallon gasoline, a lot of people facing --

THE PRESIDENT: Wait, what did you just say? You're predicting $4 a gallon gasoline?

Maer: A number of analysts are predicting --

THE PRESIDENT: Oh, yeah?

Maer: $4 a gallon gasoline this spring when they reformulate.

THE PRESIDENT: That's interesting. I hadn't heard that.

Maer: Yes, sir. (whitehouse.gov)"

___________

That was President George Bush, in a press conference last month, seemingly incredulous vis-a-vis the possibility of gas reaching $4 a gallon (Prince Abdullah is my friend, isn't he?)

Of course, Guiliani and Gore couldn't venture the price of a gallon milk when questioned, either. Basically most of the privileged people running for office do not have to worry about the quotidian cares facing the plebes.

As Leonard Pitts said in "Average Joe Not Really One of Us":

"[Bush] may not have gravitas, the thinking went. He may not have piercing intelligence. But he's one of us.

"Think again. Apparently, he's not even that."

But for sheer destructiveness combined with cluelessness, veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has probably summed it up best. "This is the worst president ever.
He is the worst president in all of American history."

Clueless may make cute movie, but it doesn't make a cute president.

This just in from Bill Clinton. Here is the deal. Obama and Hillary will tie for nomination lead at the end of the race. The 500 Super Delegates will nominate Hillary because Bill Clinton has already put in the fix. Hillary will then swamp McCain who committed suicide by sleeping w/George Stinky Bush. You heard it hear first. I have approved this message and you may publish it, signed, Big Al From Eustis.

anon,

I am not sure whether Big Al is an agent provocateur, insane, or a nouveau Nostradamus.

Good post, Lisa. It suddenly made me remember my Mencken:

"As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their hearts desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

—H.L. Mencken, The Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920

UC,

Splendid, absolutely splendid.
