Flim Flam Man
I have here in my pocket -
and thank heaven you can't see them -
lewd, dirty, obscene, and I'm ashamed to say this:
French postcards.
They were sold to me in front of your
own innocent high school
by a man with a black beard... a foreigner
--Elmer Gantry (1960)
Alice: One can't believe impossible things
Queen: When I was younger,
I always did it for half an hour a day.
Why, sometimes I've believed as many as
six impossible things before breakfast
--Alice in Wonderland,

Two incompatible headlines from yesterday's news:
"Obama's Task: Maintaining Support for U.S. War"
"Fed Holds Interest Rate as U.S. Recovery Limps"
It seems mauvaise foi to argue for two contradictory things; it can't be both. Yet Mr. Obama continues to tout the resilient (not so) U.S. economy.
In keeping with our lead-in quotation, a third might be the headlines for Michelle Obama's current South African trip while the raging waters are soon to breach the dikes in North Dakota, a very uncool place for a new jet-setter like Shelly O. (North Dakota Residents Flee as Historic Flood Waters Rise):
"Michelle Obama, Daughters Make Splash in South Africa"
She's unlikely to make a splash when the poor folks in Minot are inundated; the First Lady always manages to be on a junket when our nation faces a crisis. At least she was not shown frolicking poolside as during her trip a few months ago to South America. That would have been tres unchic considering the floundering state of the nation she would pretend to represent.
{Note: Ashwin Madia, Iraq war vet and interim Chair of VoteVets.org wrote a solid piece in HuffPo yesterday on the President's speech -- Time for Troops to Come Home. Madia accuses Obama of violating President Lincoln's dictum: "You can't please all of the people all of the time" by fronting a mish-mashed war policy in Iraq and Afghanistan.}

Hi Lisa,
Amazing, isn't it, how little he gathers with the largest intelligence-gathering organization in the world.
Dave
confused i am. the way i walk by The Cramps. terror is not a crime.... it's just misunderstood... like Barack and Michelle.
root problem as always is promiscuous sailors...
politicians do have an occupational dilemma...
G.D. when I suggested it was he in the front row @ .38, he suggested that he might've been at this show instead :)
Dave,
Yes it is.
The reply I still get from folk who still support Obama for 2012 when they learn that I won't be supporting him next year is "The Republicans will be so much worse."
So lame, and I don't see that much difference between the doom and gloom scenarios and what's going on in the states now as I write this, and no coordinated push-back by the White House and Deomocratic leadership.
Instead we get cave-ins and cooperation with some very sick people.
You may recall a remark I made about seeing the last Harry Potter film coming up? I was referring to what some online have called your Governor Rick Scott . . . . Voldemort.
I understand the fellow has created so many jobs for lawyers, he's being sued.

bb,
It is an interesting phenomena, the mediocrity which the many call a good. Like you, I wonder how much more doom and gloomy we could get with another. Obama strikes me as naught but a placeholder who could be easily re-slotted.
Ah, yes -- I can now see the similarity bet. Pink Slip Rick and Voldemort (I looked the latter up as I haven't read nor seen harry Potter; i think I'm one of the few Americans who hasn't.) He really is horrid, and I have my fellow Floridians to thank for him.
Gees, wonder if the folk in Minot are going to rape, pillage & plunder like the folk in Katrina/Narleans,? Or, are they going to come cooperatively together, without waiting for the gunvernment...etc, etc etc....
