Frying Pan into the Fire

"out of the frying pan (and into the fire)"
Yesterday at our local gun show I heard the following not quite penetrating analysis espoused by a fellow American: ''Al-Qaeda is just waiting for the Democrats to take over and then they've got us beat. We're really in trouble then.''

I didn't comment as ignorance is not subject to thoughtful considerations, though there is much I could have said. I will mention his appearance as it is relevant to one of these--he was a grossly obese, 40-ish male, wearing woodland camouflage pattern shirt and trousers. The camo was a clever fashion gambit, as it broke up the visual field, but not enough so to conceal his prodigious excess girth.

Among the things I might have said:

[1] You should perform a personal threat assessment. You are in greater danger from arteriosclerosis than you are from al-Qaeda terrorists. (Dread risks always trump realistic ones in our salacious spectator society.)

[2] GWB has turned our military into an interior Iraqi defense force, thereby precluding its being used as designed, which is the defense of America and not policing the streets of Baghdad.

The Dems best watch the gun lobby in the next election. An overreaction in gun legislation to the Virginia Tech scenario is an ambush.
