Book Crossing
Writing a book is an adventure.
To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement;
then ... a mistress, then a master, and then a tyrant.
The last phase is that just as you are about to
reconcile yourself to your servitude,
you kill the monster, and fling him out into the public
--Winston Churchill

A literary friend just made me aware of the site "Book Crossing" whose goal it is to connect the world via great books. The idea is you release a book into the wild (= coffee shop, park bench, etc.) with a code number and web address written inside, and the person who "catches" the book may then make comment. The response may be anonymous and without sign up, which encourages an easy reply.
It is kind of like letterboxing, but is more serendipitous. These books are sent out like messages in a bottle.
It's a great idea, and the writer has often committed "wild releases" of books, never knowing if they were captured or how they impacted the finder. Now we may have the opportunity to know.
