Happy Veteran's Day, and a belated "Happy Birthday" to the United States Marine Corps (USMC), and by extension, a recognition of all of our Marine Corps readers. The USMC traces its pedigree to the American Revolution and was recognized as such by the Second Continental Congress on 10 November 1775 -- Semper Fi!
We will have another post up later in recognition of Veteran's Day.

Yesterday I received this from long time friend..retired social worker who's still paying his dues as a New Mexico State Senator.
I've never been proud of what made me a veteran, even though the Vietnamese I've met are forgiving, but this one brought a tear to me jaundiced eye.
Must be gettin' softer in me old age.
"For many years I pretended my time in the military (okay, as a cook in the NM National Guard, but it was sort of military) never happened. Veterans Day always seemed like just another excuse for the country to cloak itself in patriotic hooey and war-loving rhetoric...and then to studiously revert to the ignoring of real-life veterans, their needs and their memories, that characterized our national imagination the rest of the year.
But I want you to know that I do appreciate what your service in the military in Vietnam required of you and the price you had to pay for it. And I want you to know that even though that war was unloved, you guys aren't. I have been thinking about your experiences lately and hope you know that what you did was very important and that it has helped change the conscieousness of the people about war, a lesson we have to re-learn every few years, but one we must never let go of. Thank you for your service and thank you for what you've done since returning to civilian life.
