RAW is very sorry that the people already so harshly dealt with by Hurricane Sandy are going through another Nor'Easter before they have begun to recover (Northeaster Adds to Misery, Dumping Rain and Snow).  This is just a small observation on the differing use of the National Guard in the United States during its two most recent devastating storm events, Hurricane Katrina (2005, Category 5 storm) and Sandy.

In their response following Hurricane Katrina, the National Guard was armed and decked out in combat gear.  Homeland Security hired additional armed para-military contractors from groups like Blackwater.  The remaining population of New Orleans was corralled into a large stadium, in which they could be contained.

In the aftermath to Hurricane Sandy this month in the Northeast, the National Guard did not provide an armed defense.

Why the difference?

SIR, AND MA'AM...
I submit that the population of New Orleans pre-Katrina being 67% African American and the city has a notoriously bigoted _______________ (fill in the blank) and _________________(again, please) might offer a not-so-subtle clue as to your most interesting question.

Now, as far as this Petraeus thingie, just WHAT is this fluff covering up?
If it weren't serious, some kinda comedian could have a field day "All In"...."embedded"

Don't tell me the director of the Central Intelligence Agency is stepping down over an affair?
Right?

Just sayin'....

Nope, Deryle and bb, not due to the dangerous liaisons, IMHO (though I do give Petraeus credit for being more salacious than I might've imagined.)

No, this pertains to the Libyan coverup, IMHO. Ms. Clinton and Petraeus shall fall on their sword (a very phallic act for La Clinton, nicely in line with the actions of another staunch lady -- Janet Reno -- after another murderous failure.)

Lisa: From what I can tell there was not much to "coverup". A bunch of Islamists came swarming out of the Thnuderdome clusterfuck that is Libya and attacked the U.S. embassy. Some other Libyans tried to help fight them off. Some of our people (and a bunch more Libyans) were killed.

Is there more to the story that I haven't heard?

All,
naa...The embassy attacks were enough to warrant his dismissal, but weren't forthcoming...what else they possibly hiding under all that?

"In the aftermath to Hurricane Sandy this month in the Northeast, the National Guard did not provide an armed defense."

Nor did they heroically defend a bridge with gunfire against marauding looters and assorted ne'er do wells seeking higher ground and safety like the NOLA police did.

And Lisa, WRT the Koreshites. Whether or not the Renoite Jack-Booted Federal Thugs flubbed a simple pop-in and grab operation, I still feel that some sort of Universal Justice was enacted.

The fact that a religious fanatic with pedophilic tendencies was toasted has a certain righteousness about it In My Humble POV. It's been a while, maybe too long, since we've burned heretics. Especially the vicious nasty ones.

For some, apparently, they've learned nothing of Good Sense from their daddies.

Continuing my rant, back in the day when I flogged the school kiddies with useless crap, I showed the movie "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", based upon the plays of the Latin poet Plautus.

One of these plays was called the "Boastful Soldier", who kept a sycophant chronicler of his mighty deeds with him at all times, a trait which ultimately led to his utter downfall and thorough thrashing.

Some things never, ever, not in centuries of human existence, change.

BTW, I do commend Petraeus both in his Latin-like "nomen" and his choice of chronicler.

FDChief/Deryle,

Yes, Libya could be seen as a typical M.E. FUBAR. And certainly, affairs are the order of the day (sadly). Had some news outlet threatened to sling the dirt, Petraeus and Co. certainly could have spun that story to his his benefit; the lord loves a sinner, and with rehab and a penitent husband, why he could have had an Oprah Book Club selection.

Instead, we have a theo. going back to Petraeus's leave from the Army, reagrding enemies both in the CIA and the Army; Petraeus was taken down incrementally.

The move to CIA was not logical for a 4-Star (nor was his appointment to ISAF); he was either ill-advised or forced into it. Similarly, someone did not have his back re. this affair issue.

Hopefully, it will all come out in the wash.

bb,

I can't agree with you re. "Universal Justice" re. WACO. BATFE does not exact cosmic revenge.

(Thank you for remiknding me of Plautus, however.)

I'm not saying the feds were themselves enacting Divine Justice, but that they were mere agents of that, or Karma or Kismet or Predestination or plain old PayBack.

Players on the stage as the written script unfolds.

I am slightly surprised that you did not take note of my desire to burn heretics.

So then I can infiltrate Florida with your blessing to give Terry Jones a severe case of Hot Feet?

:)

It certainly can be argued that his mouth was the reason why a number of our fellow citizens were killed around the world, including Benghazi.

bb,

You see -- Terry Jones is also a mouthpiece of the lord and divine justice. That way ("man say, god says ...") won't always get you to Truth.
