Show Me the Money

They say a picture's worth a thousand words. I'll give you one sight picture of the monetary cost of this war.

Like most folks, I've never handled a million dollars, nor will I likely ever see it. But I do have a bill, so let's go from there.

A million dollars weighs 23.02 pounds in $100 bills. This means the taxpayers gave 575.5 lbs. of $100 bills to capture Kahlid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), to make his bounty of $25 million.

Further, the same taxpayers are presently funding $8 billion per month in Iraq, at a weight of 184,160 pounds of $100 bills (at 23,020 lbs. of $100 bills per $billion.)

Imagine 184,160 lbs. of bills in dump trucks. Now imagine them being dumped into a desert environment. Next, imagine that the wind blows them away, and you're never going to see them again. 184,160 lbs. of $100 bills, blowing away like confetti. One month, only. (At the risk of sounding Rainman-esque, for one year, the weight exceeds 2,209,000 lbs.) When this image came to me, it was definitely not a Calgon moment.

What country can afford to continue this fiscal madness with no returns? Is this the sort of fiduciary policy that helped the Bush family accrue untold asets?

This is the vison, and the reality, that GWB has inflicted upon America.
